Options and Treatments for Adults Dental Braces

Braces are made of metal bands that are cemented to the molars and metal brackets that are directly glued to the front teeth. Orthodontists use this treatment to move a patient’s teeth or underlying bone. It’s no longer surprising when an adult contemplates on getting dental braces. Traditionally, this procedure is done when a person is much younger, as there is this lingering belief that braces can work better when done as a child. This is because at a young age, bones and tissues have yet to mature. Thus, adjustments on the teeth should be easier to manage, as it can be easily manipulated and controlled.

While part of that is true, that is certainly not the case today. For as it turns out, bones and tissues on the teeth are constantly moving and re-adjusting in its place, even as it is already mature and especially when there’s a space to occupy. The movement of the teeth in adulthood may be gradual or slower compared to children’s teeth. But it is possible. Which can only mean that even as an adult, you can still get braces and have your teeth concerns corrected.

The reason why getting braces, even as late as 30 years old or above, is still needed is because the structure of the teeth can become bothersome for many adult patients. They may have bite problems or a crooked set of teeth that is already getting in the way of their eating or talking. They may be living far too long with an overcrowded teeth set and it’s now taking a toll on their dental health. They may also have jaw problems that are too painful to manage already. Getting braces is a good way to correct all of these.

If you are an adult, Invisalign can work for you. This is a treatment option for straightening the positioning of teeth. If you have a concern with an overbite or an under bite, for example, you may want to talk to your dental care provider about the options available through these products. When you do, you may be impressed that even as an adult you can make this significant improvement without ever having to let anyone know what you are doing. It really can be that easy to do. This may be the ideal treatment for your needs.

Easy Care

Another benefit is that these products are easy to care for. You can pop them out of your mouth when you want to do so. This allows you to brush your teeth as you normally would. You can eat anything you like, too. With traditional metal braces, this is not possible. However, for those who want to see significant improvement in their smile but do not want the limitations that braces can offer, this is a good alternative. You can even pop these trays out when you have an important event to attend and your smile will look better.

Types of braces include gold-plated stainless steel, clear, lingual, and titanium braces. There are various options to fit a patient’s individual needs. For example, a person allergic to nickel might chose to wear gold-plated stainless steel or titanium braces. The cost of braces ranges from a couple thousand to several thousand dollars. Patients generally wear braces for two to three years. If a person has all his or her adult teeth, invisible braces may be used. Invisible braces are clear, plastic aligners that are worn for 22 to 23 hours a day and are replaced every two weeks by the next set.  More at Glovsky Orthodontics.
